Trust is an essential ingredient to team building. Building trust takes time but a quick way to accelerate building trust on a team is the Personal Histories activity.

The purpose of the activity is to enhance trust by providing team members an opportunity to display vulnerability in a low-risk setting. It helps teams understand each other and encourages empathy.

Personal Histories Activity

  • Do this activity during a gathering of your entire team so that everyone can participate.
  • Provide 2-3 questions: Avoid trivial questions that reduce the vulnerability level.
    • What was your first job?
    • What is your middle name?
    • Where did you grow up?
  • Debrief to discuss what they’ve learned about each other that they didn’t know before
