Trust is an essential ingredient to team building. Building trust takes time but a quick way to accelerate building trust on a team is the Personal Histories activity.
The purpose of the activity is to enhance trust by providing team members an opportunity to display vulnerability in a low-risk setting. It helps teams understand each other and encourages empathy.
Personal Histories Activity
- Do this activity during a gathering of your entire team so that everyone can participate.
- Provide 2-3 questions: Avoid trivial questions that reduce the vulnerability level.
- What was your first job?
- What is your middle name?
- Where did you grow up?
- Debrief to discuss what they’ve learned about each other that they didn’t know before
